About Dr. Ronel

Daniel N. Ronel, M.D. specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery of the face and body. He attributes his passion for aesthetics to having been raised in an environment where the arts and sciences played equally important roles. His parents moved from France to Princeton, a small university town near New York City where his father was a respected scientist and the family had easy access to museums, concerts and lectures.
Dr. Ronel's plastic surgery practice is a similar marriage of science and art, requiring creativity, a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, and a highly skilled attention to detail in order to provide surgical enhancements that are tailored to each patient's individuality and beauty. As a former pediatrician, his manner is gentle, caring, and compassionate.
He is the only physician in the United States who has been board-certified in both Pediatrics and Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Ronel embraces both state-of-the-art surgical techniques and centuries-old, non-traditional methods of wound healing. His holistic, personal approach to each patient can make wonderful and amazing things happen.
Background
Dr. Ronel graduated with honors from both Princeton University and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His plastic surgery training was at the New York Presbyterian Hospital program, which includes New York Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery.
In addition to being a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ronel is also a board-certified pediatrician. His pediatric training was at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (University of Pennsylvania) and Boston Children's Hospital (Harvard University). He served four years in the Air Force, where he was Chief of Pediatrics at Columbus Air Force Base.
Honors and Awards
Dr. Ronel was named one of America's Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumer's Research Council of America. Because of his combined expertise in pediatrics and plastic surgery, Dr. Ronel is one of 13 national experts selected by Allergan to sit on the
Breast Implant Research Team, an advisory panel on silicone breast implants.
A nationally recognized expert in the field of aesthetic injectables, he is one of eight surgeons selected to be on the
Artefill Scientific Advisory Panel. Additionally, Dr. Ronel is a member of the
Radiesse Medical Education Facility, a group composed of approximately 120 physicians from across the United States.
He was voted Albuquerque's Plastic Surgeon of the Year in 2007 by readers of The Herald, and was named one of Albuquerque's 2007 Top Docs by Albuquerque, the Magazine. In 2008 he received the Patient's Choice award, given by patients to less than 5% of their physicians in the United States.

The Physician's Plaza Surgery Center is located on the St. Vincent hospital campus. This state of the art medical building opened in 2007. The anesthesiologists are the same that provide services at St. Vincent Hospital. Overnight stays are not available, but arrangements can be made for private nursing care.
The Physician's Medical Center at Santa Fe opened in April, 2007. This boutique-style hospital was developed for the private patient undergoing elective surgery. It is luxurious and spacious, with spa robes, massages, tiled bathrooms, comfortable bed sheets, and attractive decorations. It even has its own chef! It is a "destination site" for those patients from out-of-town who wish to have their plastic surgery and recuperate in the comfort and beauty of Santa Fe.

Most cosmetic procedures are performed in the office in a fully-accredited (
AAAASF) operating room that is quiet, private and comfortable. Surgery is occasionally performed at one of the hospitals in Albuquerque: the best ones include the newly renovated Lovelace Westside Hospital, which is a state-of-the-art facility that duplicates the comfort and friendliness of a private office within the safety of a hospital. Women's Hospital is an excellent choice for combined plastic surgery and gynecologic procedures. Dr. Ronel has negotiated a cosmetic fee package with each facility.
Aquaceros Medical Spa
Dr. Ronel is partnering with Aquaceros, a fantastic medical spa.
Philanthropy
Dr. Ronel donates a portion of every cosmetic fee to philanthropic activities. The Vanity for Charity program, where profits from Botox injections are given to various non-profit organizations, has been particularly successful in raising awareness of the community's needs. Four current areas of focus are breast cancer reconstruction, medical missions, youth-at-risk, and the community and arts of New Mexico.
The Daniel and Elizabeth Ronel Fund for Breast Reconstruction
Frustrated by the number of uninsured women in Northern New Mexico who could not have breast reconstruction after their cancer surgery, Dr. Ronel started a fund to help those women in need. Although his surgical fees are waived, there is still a need to pay for the operating rooms, anesthesiologists, medical supplies, and hospital charges. Administered by the
Santa Fe Community Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, donations to the Fund are much needed and are 100% tax-deductible.

He is also a Founding Member of the Santa Fe Community Foundation Circle of Care, a fund that distributes income as grants to meet the most urgent health and human services needs in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico.
Medical Missions
Dr. Ronel traveled to Dharmasala, India, to work in the
Dalai Lama's hospital for Tibetan refugees and at the
Tibetan Children's Village. He contributes to the Eyes of Africa Initiative of the
One World Sight Project, whose focus is the problem of preventable and curable blindness around the world, by hosting `Botox only' days from which 100% of the profits goes directly to the Eyes of Africa Initiative.
Youth-at-Risk
Dr. Ronel began working with youth-at-risk while in college, taking inner-city teens into the wilderness to teach them self-esteem and teamwork. An Instructor for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in the 1980's, Dr. Ronel was also involved in the early courses of the Baltimore-Chesapeake Bay and the New York City Outward Bound schools. Currently, the Ronels are involved with the
Adoption Means Love Foundation: in June of 2009, the proceeds from Botox and injectable filler injections will be donated to the organization.
Dr. Ronel is also a regular donor to the Santa Fe Buckaroo Ball, which grants funds to programs assisting at-risk children in Santa Fe County.
Community and Arts of New Mexico
The Ronels personally sponsor the
Santa Fe Opera, the
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, SITE Santa Fe (a contemporary arts organization), and the
New Mexico Museum Foundation. They are strong supporters of the
Santa Fe and
Espanola animal shelters and the
Cornerstones Community Partnerships, which assists communities in the preservation of historic structures and promotes the use of centuries old building practices. The Ronels are board members of the
Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the
Espanola Valley Humane Society.
