Lip Augmentation

This is an office procedure that can be performed either with a temporary filler or a permanent implant. I like to make my augmentations age appropriate: subtle changes in more mature women, larger changes in younger women (the patient makes the final choice, of course). I don't like to create a shelf-like appearance, which often happens when too much filler is injected at the white roll, the area between the pink upper lip skin and the vermilion skin of the lip itself.

Recently Dr. Ronel was featured in New Beauty magazine and offered his expert advice on The Latest Ways To Get Plump, Youthful Lips.

"Besides losing collagen, natural hyaluronic acid found in the lips begins to diminish, and the lips can't hold as much water as they used to, which causes them to lose their plumpness and fullness." (p 134)

"There are two parts of the lips that can be injected: the white roll, where the pink of the lip meet the skin under the nose, and the red line, the junction where the dry and wet parts of your lips meet." (p 135)

"Silicone is unpredictable, and, because it lasts forever, it can pose problems with the way your lips age." (p 137)

"Anything that breaks down the collagen in the lips, like smoking, free radicals and the sun, will cause the outer lines that define the lips to fade away." (p 138)

"She [Nicole Kidman] has a nice amount of 'incisor show'- how much of the front teeth peek out when the lips are at rest. She looks terrific." (p 140)
