Liposuction is a great body contouring procedure when there is not too much excess skin. I use the tumescent technique in order to decrease bleeding and swelling. In fact, most people recover from liposuction in just a few days. Some doctors perform liposuction in the office, but this best done on small areas only -- I like to use the operating room so I can do a more thorough and extensive job. The laser liposuction devices hold great promise, but I am not sure any better than the traditional liposuction equipment. I continually evaluate these new machines and when the right one comes along, I will offer it to my patients. Liposuction is not a weight reducing procedure, only gastric bypass or lap band surgeries are. Liposuction is simply a contouring procedure and the weight of the fat removed is surprisingly low for the amount of correction in volume. Liposuction does not take care of cellulite.
